Ready, Steady, Cook

Key Stage Four pupils have been creative in the kitchen with a fun 'Ready, Steady, Cook' challenge. Given just a handful of ingredients, they were tasked with whipping up tasty meals - they absolutely rose to the occasion.
One of the key skills they learnt was how to make a basic roux, which is the starting point for lots of sauces. By mixing flour and butter, then slowly adding milk, they created a smooth béchamel sauce. With a bit of cheese and cooked chicken added in, this turned into a delicious pasta dish made completely from scratch.
It was great to see pupils experimenting, problem-solving, and working together to make the most out of what they had. The challenge helped to build their confidence in the kitchen and showed that you don't need fancy ingredients to make something tasty - just a little bit of know-how and imagination.
