On 17th March 2023 Mary Astell Academy hosted their annual Red Nose Day. Both staff and pupils took part in activities to raise money for this charity.

Some of the pupils that access the Beauty Salon requested that some of the male staff allow them to use their makeup ‘skills’ on them. The staff members or ‘victims’ were Martin Ashmore and Brandon Simpson. Also, Harry Andrews had his nails painted with gel varnish and gems to finish it off!

The results were AMAZING as you can see!! Some other pupils accessed the MUGA for the ‘crossbar’ challenge, which also was successful and worked out well.

All of these activities followed bacon and sausage sandwiches during break. Which was a major hoot with both pupils and staff alike.

On a serious note: On 8 February 1988, Lenny Henry went to Ethiopia and celebrated the very first Red Nose Day Telethon. Over 150 celebrities and comedians participated. The event raised £15 million and attracted 30 million television viewers on BBC1. Comic Relief was to get British comedians to make the public laugh, while raising money to help people around the world and in the United Kingdom. This year alone a whopping £34 million was raised from donations. This takes the total from the very first Comic Relief until today, a massive £1,100,008,153 and with the donations still coming in from Mary Astell Academy that total is only going to go up!!
