Welcome to our Salon

At Mary Astell Academy we aim to provide our students with many chances to explore further interests, whether these be for personal or professional gain. During pathway lessons, students can explore a wide range of subjects in addition to the academic curriculum such as construction, sport, and beauty. Mary Astell Academy has a great salon within the school used during hair and beauty pathways to allow students to play with techniques and materials to learn in a fun way. We offer teaching regarding make-up application, hair styling, nail application and henna tattoos. Teaching hair and beauty allows students to explore the topic as a general interest or with the hopes of working within the beauty industry within the future, which continues to grow exponentially.

Our students learn to perform such techniques on mannequins, each other or even staff volunteers. We have taught common beauty related techniques for a while now, with professional visitors arriving at the school to teach workshops to our students. We have focused on correct hair washing techniques, cutting techniques and styling techniques to provide a well-rounded understanding of hairdressing to students with future ambitions within this area. They have further learned to work with gel manicures, fake nails and nail art to develop a well-rounded understanding of nail design for students within future ambitions of becoming nail technicians. Our most recent venture has focused on henna tattoo art, which allows students to explore creative learning by combining art and beauty to create intricate designs.

We hope to continue expanding our ability to teach beauty related topics, to promote fun learning and to hopefully develop interests which could lead students towards a professional pathway in the future!
