The Wellbeing Hub is based in the bungalow in the car park a MAA. It consists of a large open room with natural light and comfortable chairs. We all have as place at home where we can relax and ‘chill-out’ for a while. So to have a similar place at school where the young people spend so much of their day is a great benefit to their mental health and wellbeing.

On the walls are posters designed to improve the mind-set of the young people who access The Hub, whether it be extra support outside the classroom or whether they are timetabled for regular intervention. There is also some guidance about ‘what we do’ in the hub, such as; look after each other, being safe and take responsibility for their own behaviour.

The Hub has provided a real centre of focus for the well-being and mental health for MAA.

Data sheets on The Hub attendance are completed each week by staff and it has been noted that there are more young people accessing The Hub by requesting a session there rather than wait for a problem to arise. Which shows that they are beginning to recognise when they are struggling and need regulate their emotions. This reduces the amount of times that a young person goes into crisis mode.

The Hub staff team consists of:

  • Christine Kelly Pastoral Team - Hub and Interventions
  • Claire Rarity - Therapeutic Pastoral Support and Interventions
  • Lara Barnes - SENDCo
  • Sunshine Douglas - SEN HLTA
  • Cameron Brown & Hudson the Therapy Dog - School Counsellor (Mon/Wed)
  • School nurse drop-in - Thursday AM
  • Sarah Kildare - Crime prevention (Tuesday)
