Salon as Self Care

Mary Astell Academy has a fully equipped salon available to all pupils from Year 10 onwards. It is open for both female and male pupils.

The influence of well-being on pupils is powerful and the way they may feel after a session will keep them wanting to attend further sessions.

The salon experience needs to be more appreciated. A study has shown that salons are about many other aspects. It is about relationships, making people feel good on the inside and on the outside. MAA pupils benefit greatly from relationships and what better place to start in the salon.

There are a range of things available to pupils (and occasionally) staff:

• Hair styling
• Hair treatments
• Gel nails
• Hand massage
• Henna tattoos (previous clear patch test)

MAA pupils have made great progress throughout the year and have asked to go that one step further by requesting a therapy bed where they can do facials, eyebrow waxing and other facial treatments.
